What The Game's Been Missing....

So I just downloaded Mario's new mixtape "What The Game's Been Missing" from dapiff.com. So I'm listening ... thinking hmmm. I love me some Mario. Thats a hometown dude. Gotta support your own. BALTIMORE BABE.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not disappointed at all. So I don't want yall to think that. I just wish I listened to this before Trey came out with Anticipation. I have expectations set now. And it's preventing me from really enjoying Mario's mixtape. Maybe I'm turned off by all the DJ talk. I hate that. But I do like Mario's mixes of songs. My fav is "Who's Gonna Save My Soul." I mean I already love that song.

I do like these two songs. I don't know if its a original or not. "Crazy Kind Of Love" and "Good In Bed". The beat. I am in love.

Mario - What The Game's Been Missing

THE VERDICT: I'm impartial. I'm not sure how I fell about the work as a whole. Honestly speaking. I'm still a Mario fan. I'm not hating on dude at all. I advice Mario fans download and support your boy. Everyone needs support. If your not a fan. Don't bother cause I don't wanna hear the comments. Sure you're entitled to your opinion (even tho its bad), but I'm just as entitled not to listen. =) I like how I just said that. I'm gonna go write that down.

I'm gonna wait for the album. I'm definitely gonna swipe the card for that.

My Genesis Experience

It's funny that I'm writing about this. I was on the computer all yesterday chatting it up with some of my TSMB peeps as we all waited for the release of Genesis. As I said before, most if not all of us changed our pics and whatnot in support of it. We waited so long for it, chanting #Genesis to try to make it into a trend, but it didn't. I think Twitter is cheating.

So anyway we kept getting messages from Troy Taylor telling us to be patient, but in all honesty we couldn't. We been waiting all day. I actually wanted to go to sleep, but I didn't (okay I'm lying I didn't go to sleep 'til 4 in the morning).

Finally ... after 12 (wasn't keeping track) the mixtape was released, but it also came with it's set of problems. I was able to download straight from the link. I received a zipped folder. When I went to extract it, the ish didn't work. So I had to play the songs straight from the zipped folder. I had to click on each individual song to get it to work in iTunes. THEN once that was over, I found out that iTunes didn't recognize a damn thing even thought I was playing it. So I had to improvise. I copied all the songs out of there and made a new folder. AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW. It works.

I SHOULD'VE DONE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! UGH!!

But anyways . . .
I played it and loved it. Not saying that I wasn't going to. I went into the download knowing that I was going to love it. See I had always been a fan of Trey's since the first CD, but (yes there's a but) it was before my download era. I wasn't on YouTube looking up songs. I wasn't downloading songs that he probably made around the time of that CD. I was listening to the radio and the CD and nothing else. So everything on this mixtape is so new to me. So don't fault me yall. I'm just late.

Surprise, Surprise

I have never been a big fan of female hip-hop. Nothing about it excites me enough to go out and cop and album. Maybe its good enough to download or borrow from somebody else, but none of it drew me out to the stores and made me swipe the card. Maybe it's just me.

It's not that I am against female rappers. Don't get me wrong. I will listen to Eve and Lil' Kim on any given day. I have a few of their songs on my iPod. (Eve 5, Kim 3) But other than that . . . I'm just not with it. I have to hear about some music from somebody else in order for me to listen to it. I have to be thoroughly convinced, you know?

So last night I was on twitter and Nicole Bitchie tweeted something about this rapper named Nicki Minaj. She released a mixtape recently called "Beem Me Up Scotty." I was skeptical at first, but I was a little interested because of the name. I heard that she is like a version of Lil' Kim. I'll leave yall to be the judge of that. A few links of her songs were posted. I wanted to see what the hype was all about besides her being on Young Money records.

The Verdict: I loved it. I didn't think I would. I'll give her her props. If the mixtape sound like the four songs I heard, then I think it's hot. I probably wont go out and hunt for the mixtape, but I still want to hear the rest.

The moral to this story.

Don't knock anything until you listen to it. You might like it and never know because you didn't give it a chance. That's what I tell everybody. Don't give up on it. Just give it a chance.
